Green Tangerine is an anchor group for Keep Scotland Beautiful and to support their national spring clean we plan is to remove the rubbish the full length of the Inverclyde shoreline, from Finlaystone Burn to Wemyss Bay.  We know that 80% of the litter in our seas comes from the land so by keeping the beaches clean we can improve the quality of our seas for the marine life.  This year the Big Clyde Beach Clean will run from 21st March to 20th April. For details of dates and locations see https://www.greentangerine.org.uk/the-big-clyde-beach-clean

All equipment provided and everyone is welcome.

As an anchor group of the Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB) 'Upstream Battle' Campaign, we are planning a series of litterpicks between 15th March and 28th April 2024 , covering the length of Inverclydes' shoreline. This is the 6 weeks designated for the 2024 Spring Clean, by KSB, where thousands of volunteers and members of the public will be out helping to improve their local areas. We want to encourage as many community groups and individuals as possible to participate, in order to make it Inverclydes' biggest ever beach clean!!!! There are benefits for individuals, for communities and for the environment. Litterpickers enjoy meeting new people and being outdoors which helps them to relax and de-stress, while feeling empowered by helping out the local environment. There is evidence that 80% of the litter in our rivers and oceans, comes from land, so by keeping our beaches and surrounding areas clean, we can improve the quality of our seas for marine life. Small actions do make a difference! Literati Guide to Inverclyde have coordinated regular litterpicks and occasional corporate litterpicks across Inverclyde for over 6 years. In 2023, we hosted 102 events with over 700 people taking part, and we collected approximately 5430kg a waste - the weight of over 46 bottle-nosed dolphins!! In the first 3 weeks of this year, 47 volunteers have already collected 90 bags of detritus and assorted rubbish. To celebrate the outcome of the Spring Clean/Big Clyde Beach Clean, we are hoping to host a picnic at Lunderston Bay on 21st April 2024. All participants will receive more information on this nearer the time. For groups: we can agree a time and place that suits you and we will provide all of the equipment you need. For individuals: we can share the list of planned litterpicks and you can choose the event which works best for you! If you can give an hour or two of your time, we would love to hear from you via the 'Contact' option or email annette@greentangerine.org.uk As dates and locations are finalised, they will be added here on the website and you are welcome to join in! Everyone is welcome! Everyone is needed to meet this challenge!
