Parklea Branching Out

Parklea ‘Branching Out’ uses a holistic approach to provide horticulture and employability training for people with learning and physical disabilities, mental health problems, the elderly, the unemployed and other community groups. The voluntary organisation grows bedding plants each year which are available for sale to the public.

Branchton Gardening Club


Branchton Gardening Club is a volunteer led, community based gardening club based at Branchton Community Centre. The group aims to grow as much produce as they can, to allow people access to locally-grown fresh fruit and veg. They also want to create community green/growing spaces on vacant/derelict land to enable communities to benefit from their areas.

Belville Community Garden Trust

Belville Community Garden is an allotment space and garden which helps to coordinate environmental and biodiversity projects, community arts and health projects, and group activities across Inverclyde. Fruit and vegetables are grown to supply a fresh and local food source for Inverclyde residents.

Blooming Inverkip

Blooming Inverkip are a volunteer led community gardening group based at The Hub, Inverkip. They work with the aim of improving and brightening the local area, using best practices where possible, while encouraging new gardeners by actively working with Inverkip Primary School.

The Inverclyde Shed


The Inverclyde Shed runs workshop and recreational facilities across Inverclyde, pooling the talents of locals to encourage people to be creative and more social, all while learning new skills such as crafting, repairing, carpentry, metalwork, woodturning, and even gardening at one of their community garden sites. The Shed aims to reinforce social connections while reducing waste by following the ethos of Reduce, Repair, Re-Use and Recycle.

Broomhill Gardens & Community Hub

Broomhill Gardens and Community Hub provides both voluntary and work-related opportunities, and training in landscaping, ground maintenance, horticulture and tree surgery, for people with unemployment or mental health difficulties. Plants and shrubs are grown here, available for purchase by the public.

Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park

At 108 square miles, Clyde Muirshiel is Scotland’s largest regional park. With rangers working from 3 different centres, the park provides free public access for nature walks and cycling. Educational public events and volunteering opportunities are provided regularly throughout the summer, teaching visitors about the conservation of wildlife and natural habitats, tree-planting, invasive species and park maintenance.

Friends of Coves Community Nature Reserve Volunteer Group

Coves Local Nature Reserve, in Gourock, covers 48 hectares of mixed habitat, including: 2 reservoirs, hedgerows, woodland and unimproved neutral grassland. The volunteer groups comes together with the aim of overseeing the maintenance of the reserve, while encouraging locals to enjoy the landscape and learn about the historical and cultural heritage of the site.

The Inverclyde Bothy

The Bothy is located inside Gourock Train Station and provides visitors with information on local walking and cycling routes and encouraging people to rethink the way they travel. The Bothy also offers advice and free trials of E-bikes and family cycling equipment, while helping to organise local health walks.

Kilmacolm Environmental Action

KEA is a community group, set up to help local residents protect and maintain their local environment, particularly in and around Kilmacolm. Support and information is provided regarding wildlife gardening, wildlife protection, light pollution, while talks and events are organised to raise awareness around destructive environmental issues.

Inverclyde Buzz

Inverclyde Buzz is a group of local beekeepers who are looking to establish mini-wildflower meadows throughout Inverclyde to form the Inverclyde Pollinator Corridor and protect the future of these important species. Existing sites include Belville Biodiversity Garden, a small meadow on the site of the former King’s Glen Primary School, a grassed site in Blairmore Gardens, and wildflower meadow at the former site of the Hector McNeil swimming pool.

Colourful Kilmacolm

Colourful Kilmacolm is a community group which aims to bring more colour to the town by adopting the local existing planters, while buying more new ones, and planting flowers throughout the seasons. Bringing locals together, including involvement from local school groups, the residents get to develop gardening skills while enhancing the look of the local area.

Greenspace – Inverclyde Council

Greenspace is delivered through Lower Clyde Greenspace by Inverclyde Council and Argyll & Bute Council. The councils work in partnership to improve the quality, range and uses of the local environment for the local population. Help is offered to schools, communities and organisations that want to improve their local environment.

Community Tracks

Community Tracks is a project set up by the Inverclyde Community Development Trust which works to encourage more locals to make their journeys by foot or bike where possible. The broader aims are to reduce waste and transport emissions, alleviate poverty while promoting social inclusion and enhanced employability through sustainable development.

Local Eco Businesses


InverEco

InverEco is Inverclyde’s Zero Waste Refill Shop, providing eco-friendly alternatives to common plastic household products, and cleaning agents which may contain nasty chemicals. Dried foods are available on a re-fill basis, encouraging people to bring their own containers and only buy the amount they need, thereby reducing food waste.

The Pantry

The Pantry is another zero-waste initiative, run by the Inverclyde Community Development Trust and Inverclyde Council. There will soon be 2 pantries: the existing one in Greenock and a new one in Port Glasgow. The Pantry aims to reduce food waste, while helping local residents who may be facing hardships, financial or otherwise. The Pantry receives deliveries of surplus food from supermarkets on a weekly basis, which can then be redistributed to locals at a more affordable price.

Made In Greenock

Made in Greenock is a small local business that specialises in upcycling accessory items, such as purses and jewellery. Products are created from excess materials that are donated by individuals and industries, preventing the need for them to be sent to landfill.

Inverclyde Gin

Inverclyde Gin is a business with a local touch, including the names and botanical infusions of their products. They are currently exploring ways to make their business more sustainable and reducing their environmental impact, but have begun by providing their gin as a re-fill option, reducing the number of glass bottles required.
